Wisconsin Gobbler
« on: April 22, 2012, 10:38:25 PM »
I nearly left the woods I was hunting because there were several other hunters in the same small patch of woods.  We were calling to the same gobbler that eventually left the area.  I doubled back and hoped to catch a wandering gobbler behind me and that's exactly what happened.  I only had to call to him twice with my now very trusty snakewood trumpet.  He came down a dirt trail spitting, drumming, and strutting the entire way.  What a fun hunt.  21 lbs, 11.5 inch beard, 1 inch spurs.  I would have let him put on more of a show but everything happened so fast all I had time to do was sit down and hold still out in the open.  25 yard shot.  That's 4 gobblers so far this year with my trumpet.
