Flared tip VS straight tip

Interested in the flared tip striker......I've never run one, so I'm interested in what it will do for a call as compared to a straight tipped striker....

Z, it lets you change the angle of the striker and "seems" on some woods to give a little more control.

I prefer the flared tip to the straight tip. It seems to be more forgiving if your angle is a little off.

I use both of them... the flared,grips the surface better on those certain mornings (humidity)
For sound.. I would say the same.. the flared tip gives you more control.. I carry one flared tip in my vest..

I make mostly flared tip strikers but only carry straight tips in my vest.

I'm with Shad on this one. I had never used a flared tip until I turned my own and now that is all I turn unless a straight tip is requested or I am using dowel to make a two piece striker (which is very rare). They definately tend to be a little more forgiving when you are paying more attention to the gobbler that your striker angle.

I can't tell much differenc in the sound between either one. I prefer a strait tip over a flare tip, but it seems like you don't have tosand the tip of a flare tip striker as much.

BINGO but I like a smaller flare tip striker with a thinner shaft.

I use and have turned both but in the last year have done more with a slight flair. The flair seems to give more control but the same sound as a straight tip.  Bill

Doesn't matter to me...however I prefer the flare tip too.  Can't really say why other than I just like it.
