Finally made it.... back in the shop!

Well, after all that has happened lately, I needed a little alone time. So, I retreated back into my my man-cave, my refuge, ... my shop! I started straightening up a little and I found a couple of cartons that I had forgotten about. Inside were about a dozen boxes that I had put away to finish at a later date. I figured now is as good a time as any, so I finished them up. Since we were discussing the preferences of sawn and glued calls as compared to hewn calls in an earlier post, I thought I'd post them up.

Eleven of them turned out to be calls that I would hunt with and I have selected one of them to add to my own vest. The rest are available, if anybody is interested...

Four are Walnut/poplar with bloodwood inlays (the fifth was the one I selected to use , myself, this year.)




There are also five walnut/poplar with poplar inlays



and last, but not least, there is one walnut/magnolia

Thanks guys! It is always nice to get acclaims from the leaders of your field! *cool*
PA, that magnolia does have a unique grain and it works a lot like poplar, but it just doesn't sound like poplar. This one sounds pretty decent and is probably the best sounding magnolia I have ever made, but it will probably also be the last one, too. Just too much work for the results, ya know?

Triune, it would seem so, but remember that the boxes were already built. All I had to do was shape the paddles, sand everything smooth, and put a few coats of Deft on them. They all (but one) tuned really easily. One didn't make the cut and it was my fault. I messed up in shaping the arc on the soundboard. It would take me a week to turn out another batch like that and I won't have the time for a while. Turkey season opens down here next Saturday! *dance*

Hopefully, the next one you see from my shop will be hewn. I'll still build the  sawn and glued boxes, but I want to try something different for awhile.

Nice calls Ken. Only problem is I do not see any for a lefty. *lol* You made me a left-handed walnut over poplar call a couple years ago and it is a good one.

 *lol* I remember that call! ...and if you give me a little while to check my records, I bet I could call you by name! * hi *  I have to build those lefties by request. There's not a lot of demand for those things, ya  know. Actually, I have a left-handed box put up in my cabinet (I arced the wrong side after I drilled for the paddle. *cry*) I just need a reason to finish it out and build a paddle for it. You wouldn't happen to be a MSU fan, wouldja? My engraver cut the wrong end of s couple of paddles a while back and I put them back in a drawer, waiting for a left-handed turkey hunting MSU fan to happen my way. If you're him, I could make you a sweet deal! *up*
