Top Salesman goes to.........
« on: February 21, 2011, 11:27:09 AM »
The top salesman goes to a little guy, about 10 or 12, working in the Derby City booth. His name was Cody, I believe. I walked by their booth and he asked me if I'd ever played one of their calls. I thought I'd have a little fun here (kind of a sucker for kids) and soon realized I was in over my head. I asked him how they sounded. He told me to play it and then tell him. He proceeded to tell me all about the calls, how they were instrument grade woods for the pots and 500 year old maple strikers. He then got a piece of wood and showed me the growth rings, telling me all about the closeness of the grain and how it came about. Told me where the wood came from and such. Told me most people picked out a striker with the same type of wood on the striker head as to the call that they bought. He showed me a slate and aluminum version of all of the series of calls. He was showing me all of the different styles, what was new for this year and etc., etc. He was buzzing around that booth like a bee. If I had a question, he had an answer. I promise if I had asked any other person, I would not have gotten all those answers. He had taken what he had heard from every single person in that booth, combined it, and had one heck of a sales pitch. He had all the prices down. What each call came with and so forth. I could not pass all that up. I'd already told my wife I was through buying. The bank was closed and all that stuff. When I came walking up, after buying the call, she said "I thought you were through buying calls." I said, "I couldn't help myself after that sales pitch."

I have one of their aluminum calls and that thing SCREAMS, the great thing is you are able to tone it down and it still sounds just as good--they put alot of time and effort (and turkey) in their calls.

On top of that, Cody is striving to be a turkey killing machine. His Dad is going to give him every chance to be that. Kid's like Cody are our future of this great sport that we are all eat up with. Thanks again Mark, this post has made Dave and Cody's day and from all of us at DCC, We hope that call makes yours, when the season starts my friend. *cheers*

Mike

Ain't that the truth. All I went for was to pick up a trumpet from a friend and he ended up busting it before I could get my hands on it.  ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO and his $300 sun glasses....and his lip  *aah*. That was a pretty good looking one around your neck.......

                Brent,

Brent, it was a pleasure meeting you fellas as well. I really did enjoy my conversation with Cody. He was proficient and professional in his knowledge and mannerism. You are so right to say our future lies in the hands of our youth. Hope he does grow into a turkey killing machine and if he is half as good doing that as he is selling, he should have no problems. Once again, it is a beautiful and great sounding call.

Mark, thank you so much for the kind words about Cody. He is a 12 year old outdoorsman that loves it all. He developed his sales pitch on Saturday by standing and listening to all the pro staffers then customizing his own from what he liked about everybody else. I was curious to see how he handled the rejection from people that wouldn't even acknowledge he was trying to get their attention for a demo, but it didn't even phase him. He really understands the percentages of sales and success. When he got home from school yesterday I showed him your post, and you could see the pride in his face that you recognized his hard work and effort. He remembered you also, he knew your name and where you were from and the exact call you purchased from him. He actually sold several on Sunday. He has a real good knowledge of the DCC calls because he goes with me and his older brothers to help build calls almost every night. All the guys at DCC have taken Cody in and treat him like their own. Good luck with your new DCC call, and every time your kneeling over a big long beard you just took with that call just think in the back of your mind how lucky you were to give "the little salesman from DCC" a chance to strut his stuff. Thanks again Mark, and if you get in Ky during season and want to hunt with Cody and me just get with DCC and they will give you my contact info.
Good luck, Dave French
