Here in FL the hurricane season was uneventful and despite some cooler Winter temps I've heard from several deer hunters that they are seeing record levels of mast production and turkeys all over the place.

Here in Ohio we had extremely heavy mast production and I expect a bumper crop of fatty gobblers this year !

Usually very little according to my reading. They are very strong and resilient birds!

The state forest I haunt had very little mast this year, after suffering another tent caterpillar invasion through June, and an early frost which killed the apple crop.

During fall turkey season, you had to scratch your head and wonder  what they were eating in November to stay alive.

This sustained cold, deep snow events and ice will be hard on the PA / NY birds for sure.

I agree with you John if this weather don't break within the next two weeks we could have serious problems with the birds. They seem to make it ok with the snows but this ice is a killer especially for the northern birds.

2-3 inches of hard ice has got to be tough on the birds.  Doesn't look like the ice will melt any time soon.   Farms that spread manure on fields should be prime feeding spots.

I live in central pa and we have about 10" of frozen snow on ground right now. Pretty hard to scratch thru that!!  Seen about 100 birds feeding at farmers corn crib the other day. They have been around for awhile . The only problem with that is if we don't get more snow soon they won't be able to reach any more corn.

Take a sack of corn out there to trade with the farmer. You supply corn for the birds so they don't eat his....for hunting rights  ;D

I'm wondering about that too.  We have had the ground covered for 7 days now and it melted some and froze hard :(

I need to get out to the farm and see how it is!

Our ground has been covered for over a month.
