Titanium calls

While running a titanium pot, does anyone notice they are a little slick?  Other than chaulk, are there any suggestions to get a better bight?  I have discussed this with a few makers but they are too busy to really try bead blasting or some other conditioning process. I like the idea of Titanium but it reminds me of when aluminum was first used. It took a few years until they got it right with the blasting and anodizing.  Just a question????

My two titanium pots haven't gotten slick.  I run a laminated striker on mine though, so not sure if that helps or not. 

I've not tried any other striker though...

what do you mean slick.   I never had any problem.  rough them up like any other call.

i use 220 grit sandpaper on mine and treat it just like glass...

 That titanium surface is to rich for my blood!!  ROTFLMBO  If I'm not mistaken it costs over 20 bucks a piece. Daryl could shed some more light on it I'm sure.

I ran a 3" and a 3.5" Titanium last spring season for a well known callmaker.  He sent me the calls to field test and I didn't care for the sound of either one.  The 3" was too scratchy sounding and the 3.5" was only a little better.  They both had a tendency to slick up a bit, even with being conditioned well.
At the end of the season I spoke to him and told him of my findings.  He had used two of them that spring as well and felt the same as I did about them.  They don't sound that good and they are too pricey to produce.  You'd be better suited with an aluminum or copper call instead.

Titanium is pricey, when copper is way cheaper and sounds awesome in comparison I feel at least JMO though, and we all know what opinions are lol.

I love reading this thread.  Titanium is expensive, but you will not find me out in the woods without my 3.5" titanium call.  I love it that much! 

My 3" one, wow that thing will really ring your ears.  I had a hard time convincing Daryl to let me get that one, but he did.  It's all turkey, but there is not a caller out there I've found that is louder than my 3" titanium.  It brings a new meaning to loud and proud to me.  It's one of the few calls the wife has honestly laid down the hammer and said no way I can play it in the house.

I am not having the issues of the surface slicking up at all.  Treat it just like copper and it was used a lot last spring.  Took it out just now and didn't even touch it and away she went singing again :) 

I do have a special striker for it though.  Just like I do for my copper pot. 

Now I'm not real scientific on the sounds, but I think some of these are on to it.  Not sure there is a lot of difference between copper and aluminum though... I think just saying I have a titanium call is cool  ROTFLMBO
