I busted up a group of about 8 -10 longbeards on a riverclub one fall morning. They were in a wheat field next to a heavy willow flat next to the river and flew up in the willows out in the trees about 100 yards off the field. I eased in and sat down between them and the wheat field. After about 45 minutes they started clucking and doing a whiney yelp. It would start off with a long whine and go into two or three yelps. I started doing this on an box that had a deep yelp. If they clucked, I clucked. If they whiney yelped, I did too. After about 20 minutes of this, I heard one pop his wings. He was too far to my right to shoot right handed as he was coming down to my back right in the field. I switched the gun to my left shoulder and shot him when he touched the ground. If you have ever read Mr. Wineman's new book, the first chapter is all about that call. "That ain't no call, THIS is a call". I started using that whiney yelp and have called up several long beards in the fall with that call. I seems to work well on those longbeards in the fall.
