Back in the 60's when I was tuning duck calls, all the callmakers would give you a duck call for bringing in a water soaked old osage fence post. They made the best duck calls back then. A tumpet ought to sound just fine out of one. Send me a piece big enough for two paddles and I'll send you cuttin call.
Sorry but I don't have anymore of it, most people would have thrown this piece away, it was that bad but I just seen it as a call. It just took 5 years for me to see it. I do know a guy who says he knows where some is at but he hasn't produced them yet. I think it is getting harder and harder to come by. The ones who have it ain't giving it up. Matt may have some but good luck get it. He made one of the prettiest trumpets I have seen awhile back out of some really green Mud Cured Osage and Ivory. I know someone was happpy.
I haven't seen mud cured osage in person, or at least that I knew what I was looking at, but I have seen a few trumpets go up on the forums from this stuff, and it flat rocks -- I love seeing it.
That is a fine trumpet there.
