Its official... PA just past a new law that starting next year, 2011 spring season will have all day hunting!!!!  First 2 weeks is till noon only as usual but the final 2 weeks PA hunters can hunt all day.  Not sure if its a good thing or not but sure will be nice for those who can't hunt mornings.----Jason

Virgina did this a couple years ago. Originally, we could only hunt a half day.....the reason, hunters would disturb the hens sitting! Hunters...disturbing the sitting hens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????? What, no predators in the woods all day...that could and would disturb the hens! What a laugh! Sometime it's difficult to get through to the egg heads in the game depts!

Excellent post.......I've got guys on the HuntingPA. forum screaming their heads off about the nesting problems caused by all day hunting.....Turkeys have predators , 24/7@365... We as hunters will be nothing more then a 4 week interuption in their lives...They really think, that so many more gobblers will be killed during those two weeks, that turkey hunting is headed for ruination.....Hens being run off the nests and not near enough gobblers left to mate the following spring.....Oh, hum...

Lets be real here about this.......Most of the good, polished, proficent, seasoned turkey hunters will already have their birds killed before the two week all day season ever hits...I don't know what percentage of hunters, we in PA LOSE thru lack of interest after the gobblers get quiet for a few days.....So how many guys left will be hunting all day?? One never knows, but the cool part of the all day deal is that when the kids, who still have an interest in killing a gobbler can hunt AFTER school...

Time will tell all concerning this matter for sure.....Zips

Mi use to have hunting until 3:00 pm until they extended it to all day! Many of us turkey hunters could only hunt on weekends before this change! It has`nt hurt anything! The best move the MI DNR did for the season! *gobble*

Truth be known... rarely does/will a hunter bump a hen from their nest anyways... I know I have seldom done so.  I suspect that our already highly pressured birds will really be closed mouth and even tougher to work to the gun.  I also worry that every tom, dick and harry will be a self proclaimed turkey hunter with the added time alotted, thus leading to more ignorant & idiot hunters in the field.---Jason

P.S.- Hate to say it but, when it comes to regs, conservation and restoration, PA hunters are some of the most uneducated people around and have no clue what they are talking/arguing about half the time. By the way, I grew up and currently still live in PA for those who might get upset with my statement.

Zips, where are they grumbling at over there about the all day hunting, couldn't find it.  I used to be a member there years back but left once I saw how stupid and ignorant some of them are there.  Got tired of beating my head off the wall.

Drag,

Turkey hunting forum under " New Rules for fy11, spring turkey."

Your statement about the PA. Hunters covers a vast majority of them....Sad, very sad, but very very true.... :-[ It amazes me how many  so called "know it alls" we have in this state, that post their "worldly" knowledge about turkeys or anything else for that matter on that forum, that really don't know jack *poo* about turkeys and turkey hunting..... *wha* It's very entertaining to read..... :o

If PA. biologist thought, it would create a major problem with nesting hens, it would not have happened....The NWTF has alot of pull in the state.......Haven't read where they endorsed this change or not.. ??? Guess it doesn't matter at this point...

Enjoy your spring/fall seasons this year, because after next years spring.....turkeys in PA will be a thing of the past, just like the deer are.. ::)

A very Sad PA hunter ROTFLMBO

The NWTF can do some good things and then, just like in New Mexico, about 20 years ago, they can screw things up. NM, use to have a Fall season....that is untill the NWTF got involved. Same thing happened in South Carolina. Some times political intentions can get in the way of sound game management!  *poo* *poo* *poo* *poo* *poo* *poo* *stu* *stu* *stu*
