         I learned something new today.......Thanks for sharing those items w/ me.......What would the reasoning be for removing the fall season other then a drop in the population?  Did both of those states have fall turkey tags? What made up the lost revenue for both states, if there was fall tags involved???

They both had a Fall season, so I assume there were tags involved. In the case of NM, I can only speak from personal knowlege of the area I hunted. There was no decline in the turkey population. Because turkeys move from higher elevations due to heavy snows, their thinking was that there were fewer turkeys....which wasn't true.

 In SC, well just ask any one who hunts SC....there is no shortage of hen turkeys...!

Maybe, the NWTF thought, they knew better then the game biologist, what was better for the respective population.......POLITICS

     Amazing how they can make things like that happen.....AMAZING!!

 I think in both cases, the NWTF used the fact that deer season (and Elk in NM) was so long that hunters were using rifles to shoot turkeys in the Fall...and that wasn't sporting! Simple way to correct that problem is to shut deer season down for one week of turkey season and then just allow the deer season to run another week longer.

Just reading through this post, still a little up in the air about the all day hunting idea, but it would allow me to get some more time in the woods after school.  In my opinion, I think the best thing for Pa turkey hunting would be to go to a seperate tag similar to New York's system.  We get soooo many "weekend warriors" or those guys who bought a licence for deer and say " yeah I'll go turkey hunting" and have absolutely no idea how to turkey hunt.  It would really weed out some of the uneducated Pa hunters in the turkey woods.

     That's one of the MAIN reason for me being a no-show on the first day of our season.......To many unethical, bad mannered, self centered, non-scouting, moral less knuckleheads stomping around blowing their X-mas gift crow and owl hooters at 9:00AM....Included with this mornings circus act was allot of people calling way to much and wayyyy to loud and riding their 4 wheelers all over the Lords creation......

    I'd love to see the state of PA., go with a 25.00 fee to hunt spring and 25.00 fee for fall hunting....Creates revenue and would hopefully weed out the Weekend Warriors as you called them...

     I'm sure, with all the folks out of work or layed off, that years spring season circus will last longer then normal....as it did last year...
