Okay, so, on the subject of shock gobbling..  I use a crow call most of the time, and get some good responses. But i can get more with my voice. Thing is, my crow caw is realistic enough to get the job done most of the time, but i have this different sort of owl hoot i use. Sounds nothing like an owl, but gets shock gobbles you wouldnt believe... Since it is SHOCK gobbling, does it need to be realistic? Just thinking since they are so hyped up on love that they gobble back at nearly anything.. wondering if that can spook them..

Interesting and a good question to discuss.  I really don't think your voice would spook a turkey so long as it is animal like in sound.  I have used my own natural voice for owling all my life with great results. Heck, I have listened to all sorts of things, like gas wells blowing the release valves to coal trucks clanking while driving out strip job sites that made turkeys gooble.  So by all means do what you do.---Jason

 Try something a bit different..........an elk bugle! Sounds absurd but it works great.

I've done that before and also honking.  Haven't used either with any success for 10 to 15 years...

Never thought about an elk bugle, but I bet that would get them going!

i agree that a door slamming with set them off, but i don't use that as a way to get them to gobble.  i'd rather have them sound off to something more natural and even though a slamming door might not spook them, i'd rather not give them any idea that danger could be around the corner.

I pretty much stick to coyote howlers or owl hooters...

I use most of them and a lot of times let them Gobble on there own. Last Year,Nothing worked better than a Coyote Bark for me. Just plain Dog barks were working in the late morning. The best locator I have seen was a JackAzz sounding off in Kentucky...he would Hee Haw at day break and the Woods would sound off. HMMMM..wonder what Reed I could use for a Heeee Hawwwwwww...lol

i've had luck using a hawk scream, when a crow call wouldn't work.  i have a crow call from jack mincey and on one side, if you blow into while holding it horizontally, it produces a great scream.  it has helped me locate a few birds that weren't reacting to the crow call.

I wouldnt dare, particularly on public land.  Theres likely no better way to get another hunter to slip into your set up.

Around here, you best not use a gobble.......even on private land. Asking for nothing but trouble.......trespassers!!!
