Bow suggestions

Ok boys and girls I got the fever again. I haven't hunted with a bow for 12 years till this fall and fell in love with it again. A buddy gave me this old browning and it will take me through the rest of the season. I know I need to go to the ole bow shop and look at whats out there as far as different manufacturers. I have played with a few Matthews bows and really like them. I am 6'8 like alot of you already know and need at least a 30" draw length in a bow, with a brace height around 7". I am real green on all this. I want a good quick one too. Right now I am thinkin a Matthews Z7 for me and a Passion for the littleone (she's a big time archer so she thinks). I don't know the whole scoop on it but hear alot of good things. Let me know what you guys think on your favorites. If any of you have a bow a year or two old or even a good youth bow thats on the newer side too, let me know and maybe we can work somthing out.

I bet at 6'8" it is really hard to find a bow that will fit you properly. My son and I have shot Hoyts for a few years now and they have served us well. They are quiet, smooth bows and very accurate. I am not a fan of a real short bow and that is why we went with the Hoyt brand. I think the key to archery is get fitted properly and find a bow that you are comfortable shooting. Speed is important but accuracy kills.

Z7 or Reezen 7.0 are Excellent Bows, I had a Drenalin, upgraded to a DXT & Before next Archery Season I will have a Z7 or Reezen.

Bowtech Destroyer 350.I shot Mathews for years.I switched to a Bowtech Alliegence and have never been sorry.I am wanting the Destroyer .It shoots awesome and is super fast and smooth as silk!I can only shoot 60 pds due to a tore rotator cuff.That's why the speed is an issue.I can shoot faster on 60 lbs than I ever did with either of 3 Mathews on 65 lbs.

Bowtech..... I'm 6' 4" and I hear ya'.  You need a bow with longer axle to axle length.... maybe 33"-36".  The longer your draw versus the shorter axle to axle length can cause a "pinch" in the string and decrease your accuracy.  Look at a Bowtech Captian or Sentinal both are FANTASTIC shooting bows that will serve you well for many years.... I would say to stay away from any bow with an axle-axle length less than 35".  If you want a forgiving shooting bow you need a brace height of at least 7".   I would check out Hoyt or PSE.

i agree about going with a longer ata and a 7"+bh.  plenty of good bows out there and you need to figure out what suits you and what you are looking for.  i wouldn't get caught up in the fps, as you have dl that is plenty long enough.  you need to decide if you want a single cam, cam and a half etc.  timing issues is one thing to consider with bows other then single cams.  you will be able to get some great deals on last years bows, now that the 2010 lines have come out.

i'd shoot as many as possible and don't just look at the matthews, bowtech's, pse's etc., but also look at the elite's, strother, athens archery etc.  you can get a ton of good feedback over on archery talk, if you can sift through the brand loyal folks and their opinions.

funny that you posted that link.  i actually bought my scorpion from him a few years ago.  if i remember correctly, his name is russel.  he used to have an archery shop in lilburn, but it is closed now.  even back then, he didn't have a ton of stuff on the floor and did most of his business through ebay.  

richard- if you choose to go with one you see off ebay, or archery talk etc., just make sure you have at least had a chance to shoot the same version in a store.

shoot what feels good to you and what you can shoot well.  Don't get caught up in the fancy bows or speed pitches.---Jason

I am really enjoying all the advise guys! Your all being very helpful! My daughter has her bow all figured out.... As long as its purple or pink she's happy I wish it was as easy for me lol. I will just have to spend ALOT of time at the various bow shops around over the next cople of months and see what pans out.... I will let you all know what I end up with.

have fun in your search.  you should be able to get a great deal on a used bow.
