I thought I would share the details of an interesting hunt I had in Kansas a few weeks ago.
I was hunting one morning in a pasture with lots of scattered trees and set up to try and strike a bird, since I hadn’t heard any gobble.
A while after calling, I noticed some movement and saw something on a hill several hundred yards across a draw, running down the hill in my direction. Before I could get my binoculars on it to see what it was, it went behind some trees. I was sure whatever I saw was not an animal, as it didn't bounce like a four-legged critter.... After a short wait, a rooster pheasant appeared on my side of the draw moving steadily my way. It moved behind some brush and I largely disregarded it, until it cut loose a ground-shaking crow about 10-15 feet beside me. I couldn’t see it until it strolled into the open, generally re-tracing its approach 40 or so yards away.
I happened to have a new camera with, so I grabbed it and tried to get a decent photo while I had a chance. After shooting a few photos it was getting farther and farther away – about 75 yards.

Quickly recollecting, I thought this rooster seemed to show some similar behavioral signs as a hot gobbler coming to a call, so I grabbed my Twisting Creek one-sider and stroked a few yelps. The rooster immediately came to full alert and much to my surprise, broke into a full sprint straight back towards the call. I was lucky enough to capture several photos as it began to slow down when it got close.

Eventually the rooster’s interest waned and it slipped back towards the draw. Two more separate times I repeated this scenario when I could see the rooster.
All I can say is my friend Jeff certainly put a lot of bird in this call!!!!
