Finished Native Rainbow Trout carving
« on: March 10, 2013, 05:49:19 PM »
Finished this trout carving this morning.  Its suppose to be a "Native" Rainbow trout.  Pennsylvania has only 5 known small streams that hold this native species.
The rest are stocked Rainbows.
This past fall we hiked in to one of these small tributaries and managed to catch several small ones. the color on them were incredible

This carved one is actually 15 inches.
thanks for looking

Very nice Greg.  I did not know there was a native rainbow.  I have caught many native brookies and some native brownies when I was a kid but never rainbow.  Most all natives I was aware of are only small and get to be about 12" at most.  I know the brookies are gorgeous, bright in color with red bellies like I have never seen anywhere else.  Over the years the PFC started stocking the native streams and ruined them here.  Then the fishmen caught on to the streams and kept them... Now you can't find a native.  Really up-set me.
