David,
You have achieved something that is very challenging to do in 'black & while' get great depth of field in the woods and the birds without getting the scene all muddy...I can't take my eys of of that, it is very captivating and the Mayapple is the icing on the cake. You have captured the moment with great detail and made all of the trees distinctive, yet making the woodlands believable--this, as you know is not easy to do and know when to stop burning.
So where I am going with this...to me the scene and moment are set and the best way to support this would be to let the rest of the composition fall away to a valley with gentle movement and simple features so not to detract from the "show" by the gobbler and hen. But of course you are the artist and I know whatever you do will be fitting and look mighty fine. Thanks for tossing this out there for us, this was fun.
