Osage Roost to honor callmaker's
« on: July 26, 2012, 07:40:27 AM »
I've have an Idea for the forum, I have been kicking this around with other's and I thank them for there input. Osage Roost would honor a class of callmaker's (Alive or passed) each year for what they have given to the sport we all love. Nothing is written in stone in what it takes to receive this honor at this time but I would like your input on this Idea. Just a few other ideas .... A panel of 5 members would be selected to write down there top ten list of callmakers. From there list it would be narrowed down by there scores. The points received 1 point for 1st and 2 pts. for 2nd and so on, Lowest total points (like golf) would be put up for vote on Osage. You would have to be a member in good standing of the Roost to get a vote and it would be done in a pole vote,  so the number's will be posted at all times and nobody can see who you voted for.  There will be 3 classes, Boxcall,  Potcall makers and Open. The Open class can be trumpet makers right down to any other kind of call or maybe even a collector. The goal here would be to induct a class of callmaker's with this honor and we could have some plaque's made to give these inductees. The plaques can be given out during the N.W.T.F. Nationals in Nashville each year. What do you think??

Sounds like a neat idea Big Ears !!!!
Are you talking about callmakers from anywhere(outside the Roost) that can be nominated---there are lots of great ones from coast to coast. And, are the members here the ones that will vote via a poll fro the inductees......
Is any one else doing this.....

Brent, The idea of a HOF is a good one.  I think, IMO that the frame work may need to be limited.  If it is open to ALL callmakers alive and dead, it may take years for someone worthy to get in because of the population of deceased callmakers.   In PA, the State Chapter has a HOF which was originally opened to people outside of PA but later refined to those in PA.  Point being, many PA people didn;t like outsiders being in their (PA)  HOF.  I think for starters, if this goes into place, you should consider those callmakers that have been members since OR started.  I think that would be fair and may get people to join or re-join that have not been on or left for other reasons.   There are so many call makers past and present, that the present ones may be gone before they get a nomination.  Earl Mickel wrote three books on callmakers, so the population is very large.  Just some things to consider as you move forward.  Also, many may not get to the National to receive the award and they (NWTF) would have to approve of this before presentations are given out.  Certificates could be issued to winners stating they have been inducted into the Osage Roost HOF, just like the PA State Chapter does with its inducted members  A plaque could be optional with all the winners over time added each year.  Great idea that may need to be re-defined but worthy of action.

Good points Bob! That why I wanted imput from the members on how this should be handled. I think a panel of senior members of Osage should set the guildlines for who is nominated for this award. Thanks and keep the ideas coming. Jeff.., yes the membership will vote using the pole voting system. One vote per member only.

Ya made some good points there Bob......
Sense you are an inductee in a similar award.....thats something for us to think about if there is enough interest to get this idea going.
I would like to see what all the others that read this think about the idea. Something unique to the Roost cant be bad for the Roost

It could be a great way to honor those that came before us and made the sport and callmaking what it is today as well as those that have risen to the top today.

Still using the poll method, perhaps its worth considering inducting a group ...or 2...??? of callmakers in posthumously?  They would form the initial block of callmakers which form the core of the Osage HOF???  So maybe a separate poll letting members pick 5?10? callmakers now passed to start. Then move on to selection of living callmakers?  Most of our sports HOF induct multiple selections each year for similar reasons. It seems that this approach mite quicken the process to allow for nominations of callmakers still actively working....before they move on as well.  Or groups of a mix of callmakers both living and passed? Just some thoughts.
