John Wayne Call
« on: April 19, 2012, 05:08:24 PM »
Most of the time I scrimshaw animals and inlay them into calls, which makes a lot of sense.  But I love John Wayne, and I'd always wanted to scrimshaw pics of him.  So, I did, and inlaid them in this box call I built.  They're not glued in yet, just held with double sided tape, which you can tell in the pics.  And I have to spray the box with Deft.  But it's close.  There are images from Hondo, The Shootist, True Grit (my favorite), and The Searchers.  I checkered the sides to resemble a rifle stock.  And I'm adding a leather thong to it, sort of like a saddle ring with a thong on the side of a Winchester 94 (or Daisy Red Ryder).  It's a bit peculiar, I know, for a call.  But it was a fun project and a change from the usual turkeys and ducks and deer.  Although I think I have now had my fill of scrimshawing John Wayne.

Wow!  People are tough, as it is easier to see when something isn't exactly right, but you definitely nailed all of those pieces.  Super, super work.  Thanks for sharing.

The artwork is excellent. I am a fan of John Wayne myself.
