2 For 2 in Kansas (Updated with Pictures)
« on: May 17, 2011, 06:14:52 PM »
I just got home from the shortest out-of-state hunt I have ever been on. I left for Kansas yesterday morning and met the guy I was hunting with about 4:00 at a pre-determined meeting place. He asked me if I wanted to roost a bird and I said sure. He told me to bring my shotgun. I ended up killing a bird about 8:00 that I called up a big hill to me. I went back to the same area this morning and hooted on my Harrison hooting stick and two hammered about 30 minutes before light. I got set up on them and as it started to get light they were really sounding off. I soft yelped a little after 6:00 and heard wings flapping and had a nice gobbler land right in my lap. Two set ups and two toms. I will post some pics later. It seems I have been doing nothing but driving the past two days. After I killed my second bird I heard another one gobbling across the road and called in a beautiful gobbler for the guy I was hunting with that he missed at 30 yds with my gun. I could not believe it. He has never turkey hunted and has never killed a turkey. He just flat out got "gobbler fever." The bird was gobbling and drumming right in our faces. The old Lonnie Sneed Hot Hen special and Steve Torman dogwood striker need to be outlawed in the turkey woods.

Rickey,

I'm sure glad for the gobblers sake, that you and Jeff don't team up on a hunt.....

That's would be awful tough for them to keep their feathers, spurs and beards for very long.... *bowing*

Zumer,

I sure love to chase them and hear them gobble but I have to admit I could not hold a light to Mr. McKamey. I am telling him I will learn what the birds west of the Mississippi like and he can figure them out on the eastern side and maybe we can hook up some year and make about a six week tour and cover about 10 states.

And then I woke up from my dream.......

Heck Zumer, I would be happy with just the good health.  *lol* *lol* With my back I never know from one day to the next what's in store for me. But as long as I can keep plugging along I will be there. May not be very fast but I will finish.

Rickey I bet going slow wouldn't get you stuck in that Florida muck like ole Knee Pads  *peep*

Keep digging and keep your head up.  Always worry about your back issues!
