The final flop.
« on: May 01, 2011, 07:54:16 PM »
It has been tough here this opening week of WV season.  Birds, at least where I have been are not quite on.  But I did manage to get in front of something!  Finally got him fired up a couple hours after fly down with a poplar and walnut box.  Reeled him in from over 500 yards with the same box. The last couple clucks were on a walnut over glass pot call. After he rolled down the mountain a bit (why is it they NEVER flop uphill?? ::)|), this is how I found him laying. I thought it was kinda cool...but I may have been twisted by too many years of turkey hunting and breathing way too much sawdust.

Well LT I still think the decision is out regarding if your twisted or not ROTFLMBO, but great story and good for you for sticking with it--solid gobbler and he'll taste mighty fine.  Say, I noticed something...I didn't realize you needed snakeboots  in WV--did you send away to Mr. McKamey for those ROTFLMBO *bannana*  Is that a single shot I see you're holding?

In my part of the world copperheads and rattlesnakes are too plentiful. I don't worry too much about it but I did step right on a small rattler last year! Not sure who was the most surprised! :o I did THINK on consulting Mr. Mc on style and such tho..... *lol*

It is a single shot 20 ga. which I modified down to about 4 lbs and then tweaked up to 180 or so hits in the 10" at 40 yds. Hevi #7.  It is a pleasure to carry and rocks them good.  I named it "Little Man" *up*

Congrats on the nice bird! I just got back from hunting in WVA and agree 100%, the birds are not fired up yet!
