I love matching witts with these mature Osceolla swamp birds, they will really try your nerves.
Got the chance to go alone this morning, and see if the big boys wanted to play.
I got this one to fire off a couple times at 10:00am about a quarter mile through the swamp and across an open slough.
I did some soft clucks, purrs, and a few soft yelps switching between one of my field grade (Cherry/Poplar) short boxes and a "Double-Dealer", and the waiting game was on.
Years of hunting these ole birds has taught me not to try to rush them.
I pulled the trigger on him at 10:50
I didn't weigh him but he was close to 20#, had a 10-1/2" beard and 1-1/4" needle point spurs.
