Pair of Mississippi Gobblers
« on: March 24, 2011, 08:43:00 PM »
I just got home from Mississippi. My son and I went down to hunt some public land birds during his spring break from Physical Therapy school. We have hunted this area three years previously. We were also told about another area close by to check out by a forum member. Man, you steered us right. I called in gobblers within 40 yds both days we hunted that area. We then hunted the area we had hunted previously and I called in three long beards within 40 yds there also. I had told my son that he would do the shooting and I would do the calling until he and his wife left for a few days on the beach. After my son left I got on one gobbler myself. We should have killed a couple more birds but we both took nice gobblers and I got to spend some quality time with my son. Hard to beat that. I was by myself when I killed my bird and did not get my mug in the pic. You can see on my bird a slate Bagel from Glen Marrer the bird loved and on my son's bird a Sneed Hot hen slate with a Steve Torman apple striker. Both birds had 10 inch beards and 3/4 to 7/8 inch spurs. Good solid two year old birds.

Jim,

I could not agree more about the fine calls from Glen Marrer and Lonnie Sneed. I was also using some awesome strikers from West Augusta that really brings out the best in my pot calls. The birds really liked those combos.
