Andy Cobb Decorative Calls
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:23:21 PM »
These are my Decorative Call entries for the 2011 Nationals (my Matched Set is in a seperate post).

BOX CALL, SAWN & GLUED - First Place (this is the fourth year in a row one of my Hollowbody calls placed first in this category)
Single side Hollowbody box call features an Osage lid with a Kingwood thumb tab over a Mahogany soundboard. The call body is made of laminated Kingwood and Osage and features three sound ports.

BOX CALL, NATURAL WOOD - Fourth place
Box call made from a weathered Black Walnut crotch with natural cracks in the two knots that resemble a butterfly and a flower. The ball handle lid is made from figured Cherry.

BOX CALL, CARVED NOT PAINTED - Third Place (very hard to get good photos of this call)
BLACK SWAMP GOBBLER
Carved Gaboon Ebony box call with a Holly soundboard features an old swamp gobbler in his natural habitat. The matching carved Gaboon Ebony lid also has a carved turkey and habitat.

FRICTION CALL, NATURAL WOOD - Third Place
Titanium surface pot call made from figured Rambutan wood with a slate soundboard. The striker has a Rambutan wood bell and a Purpleheart peg. The call and striker are tethered on a cowhide lanyard with a whitetail deer antler bead.

TROUGH CALL - Third Place
Trough call made from Australian Yellow Box Burl with strutting gobbler artwork done in acrylic paint and India ink. The matching strikers are made of Yellow Box Burl, one with a Gaboon Ebony peg and the other with a Purpleheart peg. The call is displayed on a Red Oak base.

Absolutely beautiful Andy, I have always enjoyed your art deco styling, and the natural and carved endeavors are very impressive to put it mildly.  Your hollowbody calls are truly in a class of their own--no wonder you have won 4 years in a row! *bowing*
