Deer in Iowa?? we ain't got no stinkin deer. ;) Eldon huh? that would be a prime place for some nice deer, Tom Arnold's hometown i do believe. the famed Albia buck (300+ inch deer) was shot just a few minutes from there and I've been hearing rumors for a few yrs now that there is a twin to that deer running around down there that has been caught on trail cams. Good luck! and ohh, sorry for the outrageous cost of the tag.. :-\

Thanks Guys.

I already can't sleep thinking about it!.  I live in the North Central part of Pa. Right smack in the middle of the major PA elk herd.  Our Deer population has really declined over the years up here.
Over hunting of Doe and bad winters.  We have only about 10 deer per square mile, I think it's more like 5.
Now they can't get adults and kids into hunting here. (major problem).  No one wants to hunt 3 -4 days here in rifle season and not see a deer or any sign of deer.  Tough to keep the kids away from the Playstations to sit out and see nothing.
Sure isn't like it use to be.
Now PA legalized crossbows for the entire archery season.  Just to try and increase revenue.  There goes the archery season!!!  Now we will have the armchair hunters walking around taking 70 yd shots and screwing up the guys that really put the time in!   PA sucks.  I have been hunting South Eastern Ohio (bow) for the last 4 years.  I love it.
When my kids are older I will take them out of state if I can afford too.

Thanks for the reply

Forgot to add something, just shoot a couple extra, and kick em in the ditch, we won't tell. ;D population is about out of control, that's what the farmers will tell you anyways.

That's awesome.  Hope you get a crack at a giant. *up*

I stopped applying years ago for Iowa.  Went out there and got permission to hunt over 5,000 acres of prime southeast Iowa farmland. The only problem was getting drawn for a permit.  *aah*
So I gave up and moved over to IL.  Been hunting there the last 7 years.

I know what you mean.  Now the tag is $530.  I can't see myself going there very many times. Now with 2 youngins at home.  That gets pricey
I was fortunate one year to hunt Pike County ,Il  (when I was single). That outfitter now charges $3200 :o
Guess I will make the best of public land

Thanks Guys

Hey Shadow,
What county you hunting in SE OHIO ? Just curious . I 'm in Highland Co. I don't go all out for deer since they are thick as dog hair around here .
There are crowds from as far south as Louisiana that come to Ohio for our big bucks .I talked with two fellers about a month ago, down in the Public Hunting area, which were from eastern Tenn. and they were picking spots for treestands .

If I could hunt turkeys , I wouldn't be hunting deer ,,,but that's MY weakness .

Guess I just don't get horned up over horns like some guys but 530 is way to fudging much.

Worse yet,

Luckily I found a fella that will let me hunt his land for Nothing, Just some calls.  The Cheapest outfitter I have found there was

$3200..... *wha*  It's crazy anymore.  I have 2 little kids I can't afford that at all.
I would also someday like to hunt Wisconsin.
Can't afford those outfitters either.

Oh well

I will keep searching
