A buck named Sword
« on: November 11, 2010, 08:00:30 PM »
Last weekend at work my buddy kept talking about a buck with a busted main beam but a really cool looking G2 tine he had been seeing while checking some of our traps. Sunday he showed me where he had been while driving around. I have never tried targeting a deer before so my expectations were low honestly. I went in with my climber  early Tuesday morning and looked for a tree suitable for my stand. I was by a scrape that was still being worked so at least i knew deer move through at some point.

I passed on a little 8 point that morning. Later in the day around 3 o clock a small buck chased a doe out into some golden rod and soon a nice buck followed. Those bucks left and I heard something else heading my way. I knew he was good as he made his way to a scrape about 50 yards from me. When he lifted his head I saw that left side and got really pumped that I at least saw the deer!! He worked a few more scrapes and then headed for the doe bedded in the golden rod.

Wednesday morning I got in real early trying to find a better tree farther up the creek and was unsuccessful. I was sitting in my climber arguing with myself to go back up the creek to find a tree again. Well thinking got the best of me and i got down and headed farther in and just like 2 hours before no better trees. I was almost back to my tree when I heard a deer coming my way. I was behind a bush and as soon as he got in line with me he spotted me and bounded away. I saw those distinct antlers. Sword was less than 10 yards from me and I spooked him.

Today I was staying put for another all day sit no questions. I passed on that small 8 point again. 15 minutes later I heard deer running my way. a doe blew past my tree and a nice buck was following her. When he stopped I realized it was sword at 15 yards. I drew and grunted he stopped behind an apple tree for a few seconds.Sword took 2 steps and I released...... the rest is history.

Here is Sword. He wouldn't score good and I couldn't care any less. He is just straight up cool looking!!!! A trophy that I will cherish forever. Come to find out Monday night he had a arrow go through the very top of his back from another hunter. I am glad my arrow flew true. Thanks.

sorry for the tongue guys. i didn't realize it.
