This weekend my 14 yr.old nephew Kenny and I did some squirrel huntin' here in the hills south of Buffalo.
Fri. afternoon we went to Hawkeye Bowmen Archery club, we both shoot hand made self bows.
We stalked the squirrels for hours and we both had a shot at 15 yds and both missed by an inch or two.
Sat. Kenny took his shotgun.
I told him that there were Black squirrels on this hill and that if we were lucky, we might get one.
We hunted several hours and Kenny shot a few Grays and a Red.
He would have had two more, if not for two bad shells that went click!
At one location we had a coyote respond to the call, he saw or smelled us and took off.
We also found a bear track in the mud which is some what new for our area, the bears have been moving into our area in the last few years.
After an early lunch we found a nice log to sit on and call from.
Kenny said I gotta pee and walked a few yards away.
all of a sudden, Here comes a really nice Black!
I whisper to the kid and he comes back gets his gun and when the squirrel moves a little closer,
Kenny shoots his first Black Squirrel!

It was a FUN weekend!
