Wingbone question

What is the best finish to put over thread wrapping on a wingbone. Wingbone calls are the first calls I made, but now I would like to dress them up a bit. I want to make sure they won't "yellow' with age.

A lot of guys like "Flex Coat" finish but it needs to be turned as it cures or it will sag and get sloppy. Do some research under the custom fishing rod building/supplier web sites ---Jason

Yellowing with age is a natural occurance and it adds to he  look of a call in my opinion. Try simple CA or crazy glue on the wrap too. it works well an seals the trhead so a clear coat of flex can go on easier and not get absorbed so much thus needing a second coat.

You can also try using a color preserver that flex coat put out.  Unless you're using NCP thread you will need to use this in order to keep the thread colors from bleeding.

I'm not a call maker . But ,I do dabble at times . I have built 3 wingbones . After cleaning and bleaching the bones , I allowed them to dry for a couple days , in the truck cab , with the windows up . I then glued them together with ELMERS CARPENTER glue . I've been told that this glue will not stand up to the weather . Well, I keep it inside my shirt when I'm hunting . Any other time it's in the house or truck . Two were made 3 years ago , and the other , just over a year ago. I handle this one every day . Lately it stays by the computer where I can practice with it between posts and forums . The Elmers glue matches the bone color nearly perfect.  None of the 3 calls have shown any sign of weakness ,  cracking or separation .

I got a few tips from a few guys on this site. They gave me a simple method. Put Jell Crazy Glue on the threads and then spray the whole call with clear polyuthane.
