Tennessee birds
« on: June 04, 2010, 02:19:16 PM »
I was fortunate enough to get another invite to Tn, this year with a good friend that lives south of Nashville.  I arrived there on a monday evening and boiled two sacks of crawfish with potatoes, corn, mushrooms, garlic, onions and lemon.  It didn't take long for the ones who had never ate crawfish to figure it out. Heres a pic of the crawfish I boiled up there last year, didn't take any pics this year.

The next morning we started out close to his house on a small field.  We were within a hundred yards are so from a small country road, that we could see.  We didn't here a bird at daylight, and were just about to head to a different farm, when a gobbler appears on the other side of the road.  I called to him and he starts our way. As luck would have it, a car comes down the road and tries to run over the bird.  He turned into the gap of a gated entrance and the bird gets stuck for a moment in the hog wire fence.  The idiot sits on the horn and the bird finally flys over his car and straight at us.  I didn't know if it was a long beard until he landed at about twenty yards away, and bolted out of there.  I turned around and looked to my friend in total mamazment.  We came back by there a couple of hours later and found a longbeard with several hens in the same field.  I managed to work my way in front of them and got set up and took this one.  He was a thick double bearded bird with 1" spurs.

The next day found us on at another place.  We heard one gobble at daylight and headed toward him.  It ended up being three two year olds that just wanted to die.  They came in gobbling hard and I took the one that was strutting.

The third morning, we hunted yet another place.  We found two that were gobbling at daylight there.  They quickly ended up with hens.  They did gobble to our calls, and we were able to keep tract of them.  A couple of hours later they appeared out in front of us in a small field , and we finally got one of them to break off from the group.. He also had a double beard.  I got a call from my wife telling me that her grandfather had passed away, so I headed back home early.  I had a fun season, met some fine folks, saw some beautiful sunrises, and got to chase several long beards across the south.  What more could a turkey hunter ask for...... ;D

Nice birds Kenny but I am drooling over the crawfish boil! my 1st one nearly 30 years ago was probably the most I ever ate of anything at one sitting....about 3 hours of sitting and Lagniappe!

KP = turkey harvesting fool!!!!  Dang that food makes me hungry too...  I guess now that you have "proof" of your harvest, I cannot ban you from the site  *peep* (inside joke that I've been picking on poor KP about).

You had a great season!
