Dad and I headed into my favorite turkey area yesterday morning. we had heard a couple birds gobble the night before. we made our way towards the birds, picked a tree and waited. birds began gobbling and i made a few tree calls with al&josh's walnut caller. I did a couple fly downs with the wing drabndouble made for me and high on the ridge i heard more gobblers.
Fly down came and went all was quiet for a while. I yelped here and there. Half hour or so a bird thunderd behind us. I said" if we want to get on the other side of the tree we had better do it now". He gobbeld closer as i stayed quiet. he crossed the little ravine as i took my saftey off. I was following him with the barrel and dummy me bumped a little sapling with the barrel. he started getting nervous walking away clucking. i yelped on a canecreek mouth caller. he turned back and started up the creek bank.
When he comes out of the little ravine he is at the point where its my dads shot.I look at my dad and he thinks im still on the bird. I whisper" he is 15 yards in front of you". He still doesnt see him so i just point at em as he is heading out. i yelp and dad drops him at 30 yards!!
Dad was shaking like a leaf. it was great. I love how a turkey can turn a man into jello like that.
