A charge from the Ole Lefever Nitro Special that is,,It was A nice morning in the turkey woods,,, Upon arriving I encounterd a couple of deer who entertained me for an hour or so. Usually they run off and that is the end of it, but these decided to stick around for my enjoyment. I had planned to bring along a camera, but of course in the flurry of getting ready my attention was focused on the necessities, gun, shells, calls, etc. and naturally the camera got overlooked, it would have been a good morning to have had it.
After the deer diasappeared, I tried some soft calling with a trumpet, and after a half hour heard a turkey yelping down near where my truck was parked. I wasn't sure if it was a turkey or another hunter, but assumed it was a turkey. The morning wore on, it started to rain a little, and not a gobble or another turkey sound, and I began to debate whether or not to go scout for tomorrow, but the little voice told me the longer I sit the better the odds. Some crows flew over cawing, and I thought I heard a hen yelping, so I picked up the long box and called a bit louder, about 15 minutes later a turkey gobbled and he was close. Soon I could hear him spit and drum behind me, so I eased around and then saw him coming in fast. It was pretty thick cover behind me, so I was trying to get the gun lined up in an opening he was about to step into, he saw the gun barrels, putted and reversed course, unfortunately for him but lucky for me, his new course took him directly into the path of a charge from the Old Lefever.
