Got up at 3 this morning, went here..

Walked in the woods, Had not been there but Once, 3 years ago, headed for that Ole roost tree.

Got in the woods by 6, does not get light till 7:15 Ish. Not a Word, from the roost, not a peep, nothing. Anywhere, could not hear a bird One.  ???

So I went here..

Still Dark, heard ONE gobble, in the next county from a few Owl hoots, I juz kept a hootin, till Someone said something..

Ended up here..

Sitting under that big Ole mess, getting Light now, bout 7:30.

I was watching, and calling a bit, trying to strike a bird in this big pasture area, Lots of cattle and feeders and water tanks, and a Ton, of Big Old growth Live Oaks, Simply Beautiful in there. I was looking Here..

and Here... You can see a couple O Yotes that liked the trumpet as well, I call in a few every Spring,  down the way, They would NOT sit still fer a Shot, from my Phone I mean...   >:(

Figgiring they would be coming in this open area, not another hunter around.  8)

I called a Bit on the Trumpet, I waz getting pretty Loud with it.. This went on fer another 45 minutes to an hour, now 8:30 er 9.

Not a Hen, Gobble, Putt, Purr, Cackle, or even the common DoubleCluck, Putt, Whirr Gobble, Nothin.  :(

Out of Thin Air,

I Heard a Gobble so frigin close, I Sharted Me'Self I did.. :o ;D

This is where it came from..  ???

Within about a Minute, he gobbled again,  from within 100 yrds, NO HEN TALK, nothing

I just got the gun up, Had a Kinder Havoc sittin on my leg, popped that in, and the Hens and Jakes started showing themselves in this High Grass, just buggin along, not saying a word, nothing.
All were about 30 to 60 yrds from me, about 12 birds I'd say, Grass is 6' Tall in that field, they were out there Buggin, and sunnin I reckon.   ???

There were so many hens there, I was afraid to move or call, no need really, so I just sat there, looking fer Red, I could here him gobble at 30 er 40 yrds, sounded like he was in my Lap, still couldn't see him, when I did, I just saw a red head, and could not get a good look at him in that Grass.

This is how wet that bird was from that field, took him with the Old Double 10 bore at about 30 yrds, a bit less mebe.

He was only a two year old, One Spur is curved and Pointed sharpe, Yet about 7/8 long is all.

The other is crooked, and juz a Nub, mebe, a regrowth??
It is sticking out the side of the leg a bit, Genetics mebe.
Only  a 6 1/2 beard.

No other Gobblers, in the bunch, this Fella thought He was King Of the Hill I reckon.

Just a Youngun, but a neat hunt, and boy did he Gobble, I thought I had Big Mature Sum n gun coming in.

Here is a Pic once I got to the house of him, and the calls used, it was SOO wet, and HUMID, friction, was of NO USE today, no Box, Slate, glass er crystal could have stayed dry today, WIND all the way..

Congrads and a super story!

Is that a Frank Cox trumpet sitting in one of those pictures?

Nice looking call.

I maybe wrong but I think that mouth call is a Chaos and not a Havoc?

Steve makes a mean mouth caller, I love the Havoc including the white and the orange ones!
