Can't wait for September 15th

Many people in MO will be awaiting for that date.  It's the start of archery season for us here in the Show-Me state.  While many are dreaming about antlers and what the deer will score, I'll be dreaming about kee-kee's and getting in the middle of a good size flock.  See I'm hooked on Turkey hunting.  I admit I have major issues  , but fall hunting is every bit as enjoyable as the Spring.  Yeah the gobbles aren't bellowing out right and left, but turkey language is in full swing come fall time. 

I've never had much success with busting a flock up, but last year was definitely a fall I'll never forget.  Used 3 of my 4 tags last year.  Not sure I'll ever be able to repeat that.  Smoked one with my bow and wow did that lil jenny mean a lot to me. 

This year will be very special too.  Al is working on a special call for me.  I'm not sure what he has up his sleeves, but I know he'll make one killer fall call for me!  I told him I'm more interested in going after hens in the fall and we'll see what he brings to the table.  I'm retiring my standby fall call.  Al doesn't make that version of his shorty anymore and I do not want to break it

Many people call me crazy throwing away sitting up for deer and placing my blind where I know Turkeys are going to be.  I tell them they are crazy for missing out on one of the best seasons in the world.  I enjoy the fall so much.  Seeing the leaves turn and watching the fall flocks turn to winter flocks.  It's hard to sit still while 10, 15, to 20 birds are calling and looking for that lost young bird...

I wish I hunted a state that allowed dogs.  That is one of my goals in my life.  To fall hunt with Dogs. 

This morning I woke up to 50 degree temps and man am I ready for September 15th now!

Mike I know what you mean about the fall season I am ready and can't wait either. Here in Pa. we didn't have a spring season when I started turkey hunting heck we didn't even know of such a thing. When they started having it most of the hunters around my neck of the woods didn't go anyhyhow and that included me. It took 3yrs. for me to try it and then I was hooked forever. So you might say that fall hunting is what I was raised with. I see it dropping off in Pa. there is not near the amount of hunters in the fall as years ago. I attribute that to all the videos and the hype about the spring gobbler seasons also in the spring you can hear the gobbler sound off but in the fall you can dang near wear out a pair of LL. Bean boots trying to find the birds.
The young hunters coming on aren't willing to hunt the silent fall woods trying to locate birds too much trouble so consequently there are less flocks being broken up and that means you have to do it yourself but I love every minute of it.
Our season will come in the end of Oct. so we have to wait it out for a while but we have archery season starting the beginning of Oct. to pass the time. As luck would have it I usually see the nice bucks when I am turkey hunting but whatever.
If Al is building you a call for fall it will be a good one hope you told him it had to be Osage!

Man it is getting close!  This weather is absolutely beautiful...  Out shooting the bow last night and realized how quick it's coming.  I cannot wait!  Down to 21 days now!

     Pa.'s bow season is just around the corner.......

Fall cannot get here soon enough!  Now if I can just learn to call on one of them sucker calls... I'd be doing great.  I've been practicing and practicing

No spring season the 1st 2 seasons I hunted but my uncle was ademate about Gobblers only. We has so few turkeys back then and then spring was  such a blast. I never liked busting the flock. We always located and tried calling a gobbler away whic was a chore and a half in the fall. I still miss it though. My uncle used to say fall turkey hunting was like shooting fish in a barrell. Never easy for me.

Then again, I did think I should have had 3 yellow cedar/purpleheart calls from Al and I only had 2.  Kept telling him I still liked the 1st one better than the 3rd one.  I'd say that is a very true statement since #3 hasn't been built yet

NO, he's not!

    I wouldn't put the poor man thru such an ordeal of tuning an osage paddle call. Beside it would cost 500.00 to have it made, a year of waiting, and you would need an escort to carry it around the woods for you.

    Discussions are about a mineral stained poplar or poplar paddle call or box call with a persimmon lid...That combo would make an awesome sounding call. PORTER, don't go there....

Z, Dang man, you got esp?!!!! I actually just built a call from that combo yesterday.. Not gonna say what style call it is, may enter it at Nationals.. Porter heard it over the phone. SHHHHH!!!    Seriously it makes a good shorter call.. LOL Hint Hint!!

UAAAAAAAAA, I see how it works....You and I spent 100's of hours planning a wood combo, you build it and PORTER gets to hear it.....Somethings wrong with that senerio

     My feeling are crushed, Al......Devastated is more like it.....I'll never be the same nor will I ever recover from such treatment.

     SO, PORTER how did it sound? Not that I REALLY want to know.
