Doves with a bow
« on: September 04, 2009, 09:33:35 PM »
With the start of dove season tomorrow I am going to shoot a few with my bow! No, no, not in flight but on the ground. They have a favorite spot behind my parents house that they love to land and feed. I shot a limit last year in about an our there...with the bow. It's fun and a great target practice session with an added bonus...the target tastes good!!!

Not as hard as you may think. Get within 20 yards and inside some cover and kill away! Inside 20 yards they are roughly the size of the black spot on my target (Block).

Ok you guys are way more accurate than me...  Good luck and dumb question, what kind of broadhead (or device) do you use to shoot them with?

There are no dumb questions! I use whatever broadheads I have that are older and am willing to mess up. You can use field tips but you gotta be GOOD...dead on shots or you're just getting feathers. Broadheads leave a little room for error but destroy the bird!

You know, you are required to take pics and post.  I've only went dove hunting once.  My shotguns are all decked out for turkey hunting... maybe I should try some HW #7 on the doves  ROTFLMBO

That would be great! Those would be some pricey birds!!! Tomorrow is the opener so I'm carrying the 12ga 11-87 but Monday is archery only for me. My boy wants to shoot so I'm gonna have to take the sights off the 20ga so he can shoot. I guess re-sighting it will give me another reason to repattern the gun. Found that choke by the way....PM me!!

I ain't ever heard of shootin' small birds or small game for that matter with broadheads or field points . I always used the flat faced rubber blunts. Kills 'em too dead to kick and if ya miss they don'e travel far . They don't slice up the meat either .
