Memorial Call (Blood Wood over Cherry)

My buddy in S. Illinois lost his dad and hunting partner last year, and he asked me to make a call for him with his dad's image on it, as well as his old stand-by shotgun (Remington 870). So, I made this. I carved "In Loving Memory of Dad" on the lid. It's blood wood over cherry. I've had the cherry for several years. It's from a piece that came out of an old barn in S. Missouri when his uncle died a few years ago. Half of it was super wormy (the other side of the call). But it sounds great, and the wood itself has meaning. I'm bringing it to him next week when I go back to hunt with him for a week in S. Illinois. I think he'll take it out and try to call in a bird to Christen it.

Your work is absolutely amazing!! That is one fine, fine call. You have done your friend proud. The image, the inscription, and wood that has a special meaning. I don't think it would have been possible to do a more complete tribute to your friend's father. What a special call that will no doubt help to fill the void. What a lucky friend you have to have a friend like you. Outstanding job!!!!

That is an awesome box call and tribute to your friends Dad. I think Mikes words on his post are great and I can't do any better than what he wrote. Just a great call!
