A very unique wine bottle holder
« on: January 13, 2015, 05:18:55 PM »
Here's something I thought you guys would appreciate. I can't take credit for this piece, as it was actually my dad who made it. But there is a cool background story to it. There's an older retired fellow that lives in our town and goes to our church and is big into homemade wine making a deer meat products. He's teaching my brother how to make wine and me all the ins and outs of making and smoking custom meats. One day when we were out in his basement my dad noticed these antlers screwed into a 2x4 and hanging under the staircase. They were covered in dust and cobwebs and looked pretty dirty. Dad asked Smokey about them and he said it was a buck his grandfather shot in the 1930's. The anglers were cut off and screwed to a board, then hung in his grandfather's bar room and used as a cot rack for years. They were caked in varnish and smoke once we pulled them out. He told dad to take them if he wanted them. Well dad went above and beyond, scrubbed them for two hours until they were back to their original state. Then used his creativity and a locust fence post piece I brought home from the property we hunt in NY and came up with this wine bottle holder. This piece and one of my box calls were smokey's Christmas present. Hope you guys like it.

Pretty classy.  Your buddy will love them.  Hat's off to your Dad on the creativity and paying a little back.

What a great story Austin. Congrats to you and your dad on a fine gift!! I'm sure your friend was blown away. How cool to have a set of his grandfather's horns turned into something that will be used with one of his passions. Fantastic!!
