Im pretty new around here. Roughneck ordered one of my short boxes and later turned me on to this forum. Glad he did on both accounts. Still learning my way around the site and saw this general woodworking thread. My Grandfather started me on guitar when I was 13 and I still play a little almost everyday. He also was a master woodworker/carver/fiddle maker and started me on my own woodworking journey as well at a young age(I'm 48 now). These two gifts have shaped my entire life as well as my career. I lost gramp a few years ago and was left with his small wood shop. I took what he had and combined it with my own shop and use his tools at every chance although they are sometimes worn or outdated. As a tribute to Gramp I scratch built this guitar using his tools. Those that play know it's a Telecaster. The body is fur that I removed as floor joist from a house built in 1905, the same year the railroad came through our area.. This lumber is not native to us and I feel came in by rail. The neck and fret board is maple and came from a beam I found at a local sawmill. I also use several of his old hand tools on every box call I build. Kinda helps me keep him in the loop. Thanks for looking. You guys have a great thing going here...........
