What a Battle
« on: October 15, 2013, 02:27:45 PM »
Went to gloucester over the weekend for my yearly fishing trip. The seas were a little ruff on the way out but calmed after a little bit. We ended up going out about 25 miles out and anchered up in 175 ft of water, we had a steady catch of haddock all day. The only probelm was there was some sharks that thought they  should eat our fish instead of us. After hooking up three times with our Haddock rigs and breaking off we decided to do a set up with a bigger rig and steel leader, it wasn't long till the ballon popped and the reel was singing this shark must have taken 3 or 4 hundred yards of line be fore we got the brakes on him, and then the battle was on,  We tag teamed him and kept switching harnesses till we got him to the boat. It was a Blue shark and we couldn't eat it so we left him go, but he had all of our arms wore out. Pretty exiciting fighting a fish thats alot bigger than you are , the captain said it was 12 or 13 ft long, Even though the captain backed up on him it still took us about an hour and twenty minutes to get him to the boat, Every  time we got close he took more line than we were reeling in. I think I see some fish Frys coming soon, WE ended up with 160 lbs of haddock and Cusk filets Nothing better than fresh Haddock, Except hunting with Cutter and friends and thats coming soon !!!
