The turkey where I have been hunting are going crazy!!! I have heard more gobbling, toms yelping... hens going on and on and on... its a turkey paradise up there in Hickory county where I hunt. Their are 5 different groups I have seen so far and well over 100 birds strong. Just waiting for bow season to start back up to try a trumpet on em. Hopefully the practice and the trumpets I have been working on will put a couple in the freezer. I will try and get some pics and post em up.

Well here is my Kill from Yesterday. I got her at 30yds just after sunrise. I sat up in my stand a bit and waited ..... Saw a nice 8pt a 4pt and a spike after I shot the doe. Unlimited does where I am hunting so I thought I would get the meat in the freezer and hold out for a bigger buck the rest of the season. She was a big girl at 145lbs dressed.

Nice big doe Richard.....I'm busting the first one that I see come Saturday! Its on now!!! *bannana*

Well the trip is over and the adventure is now a distant memory.  It was a weird season here in MO.  Hot, cold, wet, windy, snow, and probably a few more things I forgot to throw in there!!!  I'm not much to hunt in the rain, but I did...  I shot 2 does last Tuesday (forgot to take my blasted camera :( ) and then smacked another one on Friday.  Saw a nice 6 pointer that kept harassing me...  Antler Restrictions kept me from pulling the trigger :)  It was one big 6.  I'm pretty sure it was at least a 2.5 year old deer, but confused why only 6 points.  Oh well... hopefully he'll make it till next year!

I witnessed one of the most impressive flydowns I've ever seen.  I stopped counting after hitting 60...  but there were a ton of birds.  The hens all flew out of the tree at the same time!!!!  The sky just went to black!

The poor deer never stood a chance against the good ole .460 S&W.  I'm happy to report, not one moved an inch (except for the movement from being hit from the .460).  After my first 2 deer, I walk back to the truck to grab some ropes and gear to drag them back and there was a neighbor.  They thought something had exploded.  I explained I had just shot and figured that was it.  He asked what I was shooting and I told him.  He thought it was slightly overkill for deer hunting.  I know one thing... I did not want those deer dropping off in the canyons up there.  There were 80 to 100 foot drop offs everywhere.  That kind of caught me off guard for that area of MO.

Although no monster buck was harvested, I have fresh deer for the freezer and I'm good to go for another year!  We have a doe only season starting tomorrow and I do have a couple of tags left.  Think it's time to dust off grandpa's 30-30 and try to harvest one with it.  That might be the perfect way to end a great hunting season and give thanks back to him for getting me addicted to the outdoors!

Also, I came home to some terrific packages that I'll get photos and post up.  I'm walking on clouds right now :)

I purchase the .460 and .500 barrels for my Encore last year but haven't had time to try them out. Glad to hear the .460 did the job for you. What distances did you get to try that beast out on those does?

Congrats!

Bill that .460 blasted these at 102 and 105 yards each.  I'll warn you, if you are shooting the hornady 200grainers...  anything 100 yards and in, will more than blow a whole about a soccer ball size.  I've shot out to 150 yards with the gun and I feel like it is definitely a 200 yarder!  Another bit of info, do not shoot that .460 even in the field hunting without ear protection in the opposite ear you shoot from.  I did on one of the does (forgot to put it in) and my ear was ringing for 3 hours...  hearing loss:(  It defines loud.

Now I'm wanting to get the .500 barrel for mine too!  The Pro Hunter reduces recoil so much, I think it would be a blast!

Oh yeah, the .460 tends to jump a lot...  that's the only problem I have with it.  It doesn't kick, but that muzzle jump is incredible!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes the S&W big rounds!
