Yeah I had to drop the poundage too. I shot 70 lb for years when i was young then dropped to 65. Now as I am not quite the farmboy I was , I shoot 55 lb. But with todays equipment , 55 performs better than 65 did in my old bow.

All my longbows are 50-55#. No need to be higher.

Interesting thread..I have stuck a few arrows in turkeys ..using longbows,recurves and homemade selfbows..and like you I am generally hunting crowded public lands..and it is a lot of fun..and the highest of highs when you get one with tackle that you made your self

I'm terrible with a compound bow, could only imagine how bad with a longbow  *cry*

I have been shooting trad gear for about ten years now. I love archery soooo much more than I did when I shot a compound. I have yet to get a turkey with my longbow but man I love trying. Still pack a shotgun for them to though and would love to get a smooth bore fowler to add to my arsenal.  *up*
