got to have fun
« on: December 29, 2012, 09:02:17 AM »
Up here we have a winter season (breadless only) to help manage the hens.

Yesterday they opened one of my favorite area and I called in sick (cough cough)it was 29 degrees with a light wind.

I walked back to this ridge that holds a lot of turkey and got setup by this nice big oak tree. A clucks and yelped on a trumpet with no response so I stroked a yelp or two out of a hen box and cut on the box and about 75 yards down the ridge Mr Tom fired back I yelped and clucked and here they come running the race was on to see which could get there first. Now I wasn't hunting gobblers but don't mean a man can't have a little fun. I let them walk off behind a tree top and sofly clucked on a yelper and he let me know HEY here I am. I kept them hanging around for about 20 min or so and let them leave. I easied out of there and decided to see if maybe some hens might come up out of the bottoms to see what all of the fuss was about. I circled around them a couple hundred yards and set up again. I took out a little copper pot I got from Morgan and yelped and clucked and he did it again. Next thing I knew he was 15 yards at half strut and looking hard. I let them walk off and decided I had enough of the cold and left for the truck. Never heard a hen. March needs to hurry up.

Sounds like a fun morning. Sure hope you get over that bug. You probably won't though. They say that once you are infected, you don't get over it. ;D
