What a morning today. Woke up and was in the 30s. Cannot ever remember going turkey hunting in the 30s, but thought what the heck. Might as well.
Grabbed my 20 gauge and my pack and off I went. Went to a new farm and didn't know really what to expect or where the birds were roosted.
As I sat there freezing, daylight started breaking. I let out some soft tree yelps on my 3" SS Custom Call Slate and then broke loose on my Clayton Custom Call longbox with some kee kee's and kee kee runs. After the third sequence, the woods erupted around me. I grabbed my aluminum pot call from Ghost Maker Game Calls and did some loud yelps on it. I rotated between it and my slate.
I made another kee kee sequence and started clucking on my Clayton trumpet. The hen cut me off aggressively and all of a sudden she did a fly down cackle. I kee kee'd again and then clucked. I heard her yelp and could tell she was headed my way. When I saw her, she was one determined lady. She was ticked off and on a mission. I let her get right at 30 yards and let the 20 gauge greet her with some Nitros!
This has been one of the best fall seasons for me ever. I have had so much fun. As I got up to go get her, I realized... I'd setup under an Osage tree

Guess it was a story book ending for an Osage loving fool!!!
