It's been a good season so far
« on: November 04, 2012, 06:41:33 PM »
Cutter and I season sort of started out on a bad note but has been getting better. We hunted a farm in Clearfield Co the first day, We were pretty sure we knew where the birds would be roosted, Unfortnully so did someone else. As we eased into the woods in the morning someone started to shoot at the birds while they were still on the roost. So we backed off and waited till it was lite enough to see. When we moved in to set up to call there was turkeys flying out off the pines in front of us. and people shooting at them. We had a second year hunter with us so we decided to cross a hollow and set up where we thought alot of the turkeys were flying to.   We set up and started to call and had a couple birds coming, I had a jenny walk right up to me ,but I left it go because we was trying to get Bobby his first turkey. We had a nice hen come in and it wasn't long I heard Bobbys gun go off. He was excited to say the least. Another turkey hunter hooked for life. I decided to circle the top of the hill before we left with Cutter. As we came back around the hill Cutter started to bark and I could here turkeys taking to the air. When I started walking again I could see Cutter rolling around but didn't know what he was doing till it was to late. He found a fresh pile of humen crap and covered himself from head to toe,  Stink wasn't the word for it!!  Needless to say we had to play fetch the stick in a deep hole in a creek nearby. As we where getting cleaned up I could hear turkeys calling and shooting. By the time I got back with the other guys they had got two more turkeys. Later that day we spotted a flock of turkeys in a field and put Cutter on them. But alot of the birds flew on to posted ground.  We set up and called for awhile and had birds calling when two shots rang out.  Yesterday my cousin and I went back to that same hill in the morning and has we walked off that side hill, Sure enough Cutter started to bark out in front of us and there was turkeys flying everywhere , it wasn't long till Joe and I each had a Barnyard Fryer as he calls them, I think I'm going to make soup. I was little mad I didn't have the camera to get a pic of Bobbys turkey But I did have it yesterday Hopefully Cutter and I can help a friend of mine fill his tag next week

I'm sure you know Jeff from hunting with Marlin that fall hunting with a dog is just a fun day in the woods. Cutter is alot of fun to hunt with ,and each hunt he's getting better about sitting still when i'm calling.
