Well unfortunately I wasn't able to go out on opening morning. Kind of bummed me out. Weather was a major issue. Today wasn't a lot better, but I decided to go. Froze my behind off to begin with. Always forget how cold low 40's are when you are in your Spring attire
As I was constantly watching my breath, I would routinely do a kee kee run, cluck, purr, and yelp. I knew where some birds had been going and I was sitting still hopefully to catch them going to their water source and food sources. With the wind blowing at 30mph, I also didn't think sneaking through the woods would do much good as you could not hear anything but the wind!!!
About 9, I finally could hear some turkey talk heading my way. I just kept doing what I had been doing. Rotating calls and doing the same sequence. Finally I see several white heads and out came 7 hens. As my heart started to beat faster, I sat completely still. Nothing gets me going like several birds eyes all focusing on you. I watched the birds for about 15 minutes not moving and realized they were going the other direction. I picked up my trumpet and aluminum call and went to work. After some purring, clucking and yelping... I had them coming my way. Few seconds later, I used the trumpet to get her to raise her head and boom it was over
I love the sounds of the fall as much as the spring! It really gets me going!
What a great day it was!
She weighed @ 16lbs on the scale and we are getting ready to see how good she tastes!!!

Now I know I'm also not the only MO person on the board that was successful today
