Gorgeous call. Coming from Albert I know it is definitely top shelf.
Mike Battey of WildTalker Game Calls LLC says:
"Albert is an unpretentious man, almost to a fault. Has never sought fame or desire to be in the limelight. Yet Albert is one of the few people in the game call business who is a true instrument maker. This goes beyond an art or craft. It's what every hunter wants…… the TURKEY in the turkey caller. Without that sound it would just become a pretty piece of woodwork. I watched ( and acquired ) Albert's callers as the years went by as he perfected his skill to include numerous variations of wood. As a call collector and student of call making history, I remember calling Albert about making a caller out of Holly and Ebony as mentioned by Henry Davis writings. The caller quickly became a favorite of mine and many others as well.
After starting WildTalker Game Calls I contacted Albert to make a caller worthy of my ( and his) standard and sound quality. There was no one else I would have chosen. We discussed wood options. My suggestion was to use Snake wood and Holly. Tom Turpin used snake wood as the lid of his famous Hen Box and seemed to be worth a try. The problem Albert ran into was not because it was one of the most expensive and rare woods in the world but the right dimensions to craft the callers. Being sold by the ounce by some, controlling waste was paramount. The question both of us had, would the extra cost to the turkey hunter be in the Sound the caller produced.
When I received the prototype in the mail it exceeded my expectations. It had the distinctive Sound and Look I was wanting for the WildTalker Brand. A combination of two woods that would produce it's own unique Turkey Sounds and justify the cost. After getting my caller I took in the woods to do the my favorite job…… known as field testing : ) I am happy to report it was the last thing a sharp-spurred old Low Country swamp turkey heard.
Every caller Albert makes will have the Sound that hunters demand. I am proud to call him "friend" and it's that combination you will find in the WildTalker / Paul box caller.
