He will know. My butternut/Walnut is phenomenal, but may not be a lot different than the call you have. Great choice.

Welcome Greg,

Call Albert and  he will fix you up !!  You can't go wrong !!  They all have that turkey talk in them.

I've got  a few of Albert Calls. Every morning I have a hard time trying to decided which call I want to use.

If I had to pick at this time , it would be walnut/walnut, walnut/cedar, walnut/catalpa, walnut/magohony and walnut/butternut.

Best of luck this spring !!

I have walnut over Mahogany. She began her ride in my vest in 1998, every year she has brought me joy! I continue to carry this call. She was very instrumental in the death of many gobblers in the last 14 years!!!!

I played a Albert Paul field grade Poplar box with a Walnut lid and base at the NWTF conveention and it sound great. It had a med rapsy pitch to it. If I would had the money I would have bought it. Plus I think a Poplar box with Carnarywood lid and base would be a good choice. I also like Cypress box with Walnut lid and base.
His,Poplar with a walnut lid/base is a real KILLER !!!!

Well, I had a nice chat with Albert the other night. Super nice and very knowledgeable call maker.  We discussed several wood combinations that would work for the sound I want, and at this point, I'm leaning towards walnut over poplar.  Seems like this is a popular call that many of his customers like.  Other combos that would work include maple or cherry over poplar.  I'm going think it over and get back to him in a day or two.

Thanks to all who responded.  It was helpful knowing what other folks have success with.
