Due to some things I heard recently, I feel I need to speak up about my callmaking. Seems I've been accused of entering calls in the competitions that I didn't build. Said Dad built them and I entered them. Not sure why anyone said this but I want to set it straight for the record. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, I don't have to, you know who you are. I've been homeschooled for the last 5 years. I started from day one with Dad in the shop. Done my schoolwork at night. We've worked together pretty much 6 days a week for three years. We've learned together. I don't build many calls by myself, I don't have time. lol. I help with SS calls every day except Sunday. I have jobs I do and Dad has jobs he does. We've both settled on certain jobs we do each day. Right now I only build scratchboxes for sale, but I do build box calls for competitions, and they are built 100% by me, not Dad! Why wouldn't I be able to build my own calls? I've been in the shop every day that Dad has. Well, hope this isn't taken wrong. I just felt I needed to set the record straight about the false rumors being spread about me.

You are doing well Josh, people are cruel without cause! Just as long as you can face that young man in the mirror it doesn't matter what other believe. I know it hurts and your name is important but you cannot control (as much as you would like) what others believe! It does hurt though. Keep your head high!

I know you hear the rumors, however try not to pay any attention to them. Most of the time they are spread by jealous, stupid people. What they say is worth *poo*.
You've been a good student under the watchful eye of your dad and you have come a long way in the callmaking world. Keep at it and keep your head high!! *cheers*

Josh I know good and well what you are capable of building. I figure I'm one of the few that knows what you just built about a week ago and got to hear it.
I've known you and your dad for years now and I know each day you guys bust your rear ends in the shop. I can be on the phone with him for hours and hear all the equipment still churning away. I still remember the call you built for Mark Rainbolt. Seems like yesterday, but sure it's been years now.
I remember last year how hard your dad said he was going to have to try and beat you :)
Jealousy can make a man do really funny things! I've seen it more than once happen.
Keep your head up and keep rocking and rolling. Some day, you'll be the one to carry on the name and hopefully, you'll get your children involved too!

Josh, every where you go or whatever you do there are going to be those who strike out with vicious rumors. Don't let them get you down. I know it had to feel good to get that load off. Those are the kind of things that can really eat on a man. But like Bulldogmikey said, just satisfy the man in the mirror. If you satisfy him, who cares about what others think.

you can see the opnion most of us have Josh---pay no mind to busy bodies that have not more to do that start rumors of things they have NO FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE of mAN. The world is full of people like this and we have to simply ignore the envious that have no basis for rumors they start.

Josh, Congratulations...when people start spreading untruths about your ability it is generally a sign that you have succeeded where they have failed. You do really good work with your callers.. and because of your age you have to expect that some will think callers of such quality are above your ability...pay them no mind. Most of them wouldn't know a good caller if it hit them in the head... As a famous admiral once said: "darn the torpedoes and full speed ahead"

Don't worry about the rumor mill and keep focused on what you do. Not sure why call making has its ugly side but thats life and thats business...there will always be the negative talk, never let it get you down buddy. You build some fine calls. --Jason

I to agree with everybody, don't worry . I to have heard Al commit your giving him a run for, in the Nationals. But Please don't handle the calls without permission from the mouthy guard *peep* Oh go ahead ol' Dad will take care of Him! ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO Keep up the good work Bud!

Guys, first I'd like to thank each and every one of ya'll for your support for Josh. You've made him feel much better about this situation. *cheers*
I don't want to ramble on but would like to just share a little about our venture into this callmaking journey.. LOL When I first decided I was going to try to build turkey calls, Josh asked if he could help. I was shocked really! I said " Sure bud, you know as much about it as I do", which was nata!! I had some poplar from a tobacco barn, and some cherry boards a neighbor gave me. I had a 30 gallon trash can sittin' in the corner. I looked at it and told Josh " We'll just start trying to build calls and throwing them in that can". I'll never forget this, after about a week of trying to learn to build these dang boxes, I looked at Josh and said "That trash can ain't gonna cut it, we're gonna need a dump truck"!!!!! Which wasn't far from the truth.. *cry* He started out with me that day, and has never once asked to quit. He's always had that option, but he loves building calls and I have to say I couldn't be more proud of what he's accomplished!!! And especially the fine young man he's grown into!!! Yea, I know, Proud Dad! ;D
In late 2008 we were in the shop and sort of burned out from building calls. We decided to make it a goof off day so to speak. Josh asked if he could try a canarywood paddle on a one sider he was starting to build.
I said sure, we've never tried it but go for it.. He worked on that call some that day, and the next day it was back to business filling orders as usual.
He worked on that one sider on and off whenever he had free time until he finished it. About two or three weeks later, I walked outside to get some air and in a couple of minutes I heard some yelping coming from the shop.
Man, it sounded good!!! I stood there and listened to Josh running a call, not knowing what call it was.
I walked closer to the shop and asked Josh what he was running. He said that onesider with the canarywood paddle.. He said " I really like this one". I had to agree!! To make a long story just a little shorter... He held on to that call and entered it into the 2009 NWTF National competition in Nashville and won 1st place with it.. That's one of few calls that Josh hasn't got from me. It remains in Ol' Dads collection. RkLu
I will say this.... Josh has kicked my butt in the comps with his one siders, but I couldn't get beat by a more humble young man!! Keep up the great work bud, I'm VERY proud of you!!! *cheers* Sorry for the rambling.

It makes no sense. WHY, why would you do something that could put you out of business and ruin a reputation that you and your dad has worked hard to build? Yep, just someone that has a little "call" envy. Josh, keep making those great sounding and beautiful works of ART and let us guys take care of these "trouble makers", we have your back. Remember, don't sweat the small stuff and these people that start this stuff are "small".
Good luck buddy and keep posting pics also. Always a pleasure to see your work.

Josh, I don't know who said these things and really don't care, but I am on the end where I hear alot of people downing other callmakers and it is usually envy that drives this sort of thing, I know you and I know your dad well enough that there is no dout in my mind when you say you build a call you built it, end of story.
when you build as great of a call as you do it is going to shake things up and if you ain't shaking things up you ain't building a great call.
I would hope whoever it is will do the right thing and appoligize for what they have said or done.
keep doing what you do (building great calls) and don't worry about what the others say

Your underhanded remarks are really not appreciated by anyone. This particular post of yours is a great example of how two faced you are. You like to stir the pot and yet you're glad that Josh and Al have set the record straight? *wha*
Your use of capitol letters on the two words you wanted to emphasize are a sneaky way of making your point without actually saying what you're implying. This way you can come back and say you never said it. I and others know you all too well.....
Do us all a favor and take a side and stop sitting on the fence, which is usually where you are!!!

Yes Bill......You are correct in your understanding, but this is not about satisfying you or me, but standing up for a fine young teenage man that didn't deserve these rumors to start with and evidently intimidated some grown men. Most of the time I laugh to myself at folks on here going on like Jr. high kids, but this really bothered me and many more I think. We'd all like to know the source of the rumor. Just my opinion...And I'm not one to bicker. Thanks Bill...Your reply does make since, but this goes a little deeper than reenforcing Josh's point. This is Al and Josh's livelyhood and how they make their living.

I'm really sorry to hear about all the TRASH Talkers. You are a talented young man and have your head on straight. This is a hard lesson that comes with success and the good news is, that means you are a success. This starts when you really become recognized in your craft, so congratulations on a job well done.
I will also pass along a small bit of advice, I was given years ago; "No one has the right to make you feel bad, unless you give them permission".
Keep up the great work and let this be fuel on your fire. The way I see it they just made you step-up your game!

Jeff, no apology necessary. I do thank you tho. This post was not directed at you. Not sure why you think that I did that. And to be honest we had not heard the rumors, figured they were said, bud not actually heard them until you mentioned them to my Dad. If we had I would have already tried to set it straight. My post was only intended to let people know that RUMORS are exactly what they are. Pretty sure where the rumors started and I know it wasn't you. Me or Dad never once said it was you. Like I said I will build and enter whatever calls I choose. I'm sorry if me entering competitions bothers some people but I shouldn't be pressured not to do something I love doing. This bothered me but I'm fine with it now. I posted what I needed to and hope I can just get back to building calls now. Thanks to everyone who showed their support for me. I appreciate it very much. Now lets move on.

Josh, The one thing I have learned while making calls is be true to yourself!!! Those rumors will come and go anytime someone is successful, stay positive and focused on what you do and building the best call you can.

The only thing I have to say on this subject is: I WISH I could build half as good a box call as YOU!!!!! Anyone else has a problem with your accomplishments should look only as far as his/her mirror every morning.
