I know this isn't about turkeys but I thought that it might be worth a shot. I am looking for a little help and maybe someone on here can help or maybe point me in the right direction. There's just something about calling in an animal with a call that you made yourself that has always sparked my interest and thats why I make calls. This fall I am going on an archery elk hunt and I would like to make myself an open style, single reed, elk cow call. Turning the bell of the elk call shouldn't be a great problem and I should be able to figure that out as I go and I am always open to any suggestions that anyone might have.
As with making a turkey call there are just some things that we ourselves don't make, for example glass, slate. That being said I was wondering if anyone on here might know of a supplier where maybe I can just purchase the mouth piece and reeds from for an elk cow call. The type of mouth piece that I am looking for is like those on the primos, hyper lip cow elk call?? I like this style of mouthpiece better than the style that has the reed enclosed inside of a tube, just my preference.
If not maybe someone on here might be able to provide me with some information on where I might be able to get some material to make my own reeds. Not sure what the name of the material is, I think I read somewhere mylar or something of that nature and I think that I am looking for it in thickness of probably .010". I was also thinking that if I have to make my own mouth piece that I would probably use derlin to make the actual mouthpiece unless someone on here has a better suggestion. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
