Rhythm or tone?????

Hens have a tone in their yelps that I cannot say I have ever heard any caller perfectly duplicate..

Has far as calling go's rhythm is more important than tone. But both together is a great advantage as far as calling go's. But too me woodsmanship is the number one thing that brings me great success. Woodsmanship coupled with knowing when to call and knowing when not to call is what it takes to fool Ole Mr. Gobbler. Back to the topic at hand "rhythm". It does seem to be the case if you aint got rhythm nobody wants to dance with ya, even the turkeys. Scott thanks for bringing so much good turkey hunting advise and topics to Osage Roost. The first time turkey hunters have so much info. at there disposal it is hard for them to wade through the good and bad advise. Thanks Mike Rowland

Rhythm without a doubt is more important than tone....but woodsmanship and  knowledge of wildlife habits and calls,both game and non game, will definitely improve your chances of killing 'ol Tom

I would normally say rythm but now that I think of it turkeys don't rythm. I've never seen a turkey snapping their fingers to the beat of the music. Nope, turkeys have realism. They don't always do the same thing or sound the same way, although sometimes they can. I guess Denny was right, there are no absolutes in turkeys. I think the most important thing is realism. I hope I didn't mess up your question Scott.

You didnt mess up anything Joe, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Although they dont snap their "toes" to music, whether fast or slow yelping, cutting or kee keeing, they have a rhythmic quality to their calling. Just my two cents.

A perfect example is the rhythm of the waves in the ocean hitting a shoreline, they travel slowly or sometimes fast, but the have a rhythmic characteristic.

...probably the most "off rythm" or tone or whatever you want to call it is the Kee Kee,....  the way we do it on stage is pretty and scores points,..but those are the most unrealistic kee's you will ever hear,...don't know how we got to that point,..but it's a fact.  the true kee kee calling of wild birds is a unique rythm and cadence all it's own,..it probably varies more than any other call they do,.....BUT like many have stated,...when it's a real bird, you know it.

I will somewhat agree with that Pat, in the fact that I have heard single note kee's all the way up to six note kee's.  Unrealistic, I would say no, I have heard turkey's kee exactly like we do it on stage-fact.  I will say real birds are generally a little faster in cadence and the amount of kee's vary but not at all that different.  The one call I will say that we perform that is more uniform than the way turkeys produce it is the flydown cackle.  Again, I have heard turkeys cackle exactly like we do it on the stage, but more often than not, you here them start and restart the cackle as they descend.

IMO a real turkey would never win a calling contest. My son used to practice for contest listening to Real Turkeys, and Tree Top CDs, but since he changed to watching contest videos he has started to place consistently. 

On the original question I'd say cadence kills more turkeys than tone.

Joe good stuff.. You hear that little starter note before the kee alot in the wild.. Plus as in your video the kee kee is drug out more than most duplicating it.

Yep it's like a pre yelp kee kee. Like half a note of a regular yelp.
