I would say rhythm. As important as tone is, to set yourself apart from other hunters, I would say calling in real turkey time is much more important.....

 I'm not in disagreement, here. But I know a fellow who has neither tone nor rhythm, and he is one of the most successful turkey hunters I know. And no, he doesn't ambush his turkeys, he calls them to the gun.

Generally, The worst caller in the woods is a live hen. (although, I have heard a few exceptions with people on TV)She has one major advantage over us. She can go to the waiting tom. (That's what he's used to around here) In all my years I've never heard her out of rythem. Squeek, squak, rattle and scream but never out of rythem.

Tone can and may vary, but the rhythm usually remains the same.....

that's correct,..and  pure "woodsmanship" will trump all the calling you could ever do.

I am with David and the others...I too have heard and watched hens come cruising with the nastiest sounds I have ever heard, never dreaming it could be a real hen until I saw her, but they are always spot on with Rhythm.

My vote goes to rhythm. I've heard turkeys that sound like ducks, crows, etc., but they still have the rhythm.
