Purple birdseye maple trumpet
« on: December 03, 2011, 10:36:43 PM »
I had a request from a gentleman in Georgia for a Christmas present for his daughter.  She saw the trumpet I made for him a few months ago and asked for the same thing but she wanted it made out of birdseye maple and she also wanted it to be purple.  I have next to zero experience in dying wood so I contacted Glen Marrer for some advice.  If you've ever seen one of Glen's dyed calls they are absolutely beautiful.  He suggested to use Transtint dye and it worked out very well indeed.  The flash on my camera makes the trumpet appear more blue but it is purple through and through.  I had a fun time making this call and I'm hoping the young girl who gets it bags a big gobbler with it this spring.  Many thanks to Glen Marrer for helping me make a special Christmas gift.  Happy Holidays everyone!

Hey Guys, this one is for my daughter!

She loves playing the Cocobolo trumpet I got from Brian and she put in, about a month ago for Santa to bring her a "Purple Trumpet Call". I got a knot in my stomach thinking, "how will I pull this one off"! By the way my daughter is 7 and she plays a mean trumpet *cool*

I wanted to Thank Brian for helping me this Christmas making a wish come true!

It is really cool to have Glen M.'s input on the color...it looks a lot like a "Green Meanie" I got from Glen a while back.

Thank you again Brian, it looks great and I know it sounds awesome and a Merry Christmas to all of you!

Peter, sounds like the apple didn't fall too far.  Nice choice on the gift and we'll be looking forward to seeing pics of the harvest come this spring.

*lol*  that's so true. It is so cool to share my hobby with her. I will post some pics from Christmas morning and hopefully a nice bird this spring. I plan on letting her do all the calling when we hunt together this spring, no better way to learn  *gobble*
Thanks guys
