Weddings calls Part 3
« on: August 27, 2011, 07:48:21 AM »
Next up my 2nd call with Ipe and one I built before for a good friend in Ooltawah TN, is Ipe over Douglas Fir.  The spacers and inlays on the box are bubinga and the end blocks are Zebrawood.  This call is tuned much higher throughout, but it too does break nicely into a moderate rasp.  This call like the other purrs real easy and has some spectaculr soft tree talk ability.

Next, another purpleheart...this time over some nice hard maple.  The box sports alternating purpleheart and curly maple spacers and is finshed with walnut end blocks.  This batch of maple likes to remain high...too high, so it was a challenge to tone it down a bit, but it worked and this call has a great midtone yelp on the left and a raunchy long breaking old hen raspy yawk on the right.  With the hard purpleheart and hard maple this call can be played hard to get loud, but since the rails are thinner than most it can purr easy as well.
